NFL franchise Pittsburgh Steelers seems to be sending a batch of their legendary representatives to the XFL in head coaching positions. Two Pittsburgh icons, Hall of Famer Rod Woodson and all-time WR Hines Ward will take charge of their teams. It will be a new challenge for both these legends away from their history in the NFL.

The announcement came following a list of names revealed on an episode of ESPN’s Get Up. XFL owners Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia were happy to announce to welcome all their new head coaches to their intriguing project. The news about Woodson becoming the head coach of the Las Vegas XFL team first came to light through Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson.

On ESPN, the @XFL2023 just announced the league's 8 head coaches for its 2023 return to the field. They are:

Wade Phillips Bob Stoops Terrell Buckley Hines Ward Rod Woodson Reggie Barlow Anthony Becht Jim Haslett

Owners @DanyGarciaCo and @TheRock are on @GetUpESPN now.

While Ward will be taking over the San Antonio XFL team under his wing after his last job was working as a wide receivers coach at Florida Atlantic. The Steelers’ all-time leading WR has assistant coaching experience under his belt after interning with the Steelers in 2018. Both icons will be foraying into their first role in an exciting start to the XFL season.

Will Hines Ward become a Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Famer before Antonio Brown?

The recent decision from former Buccaneers WR Antonio Brown to not return to play in the NFL has thrown his retirement plans a lifeline. Every Steelers fan recognizes, despite their reservations, that Brown is one of the greatest WRs the franchise has ever seen. AB’s recent comments about retiring as a Steeler seem to have left many wondering who among Ward and Brown will be a Steelers Hall of Famer first.

The discussion gained more traction following analyst Rich Eisen’s comments about the subject. He believes that while Brown was extremely productive as a Steeler, his late-career implosion might slow down his Hall of Fame campaign.

Eisen adds that it pushes Ward as a favorite to go first into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

While Eisen’s comments could be divisive to some NFL fans, Brown hasn’t helped himself in recent seasons. Despite all the statistics highlighting Brown’s on-field prowess, it is his off-field problems that have taken center stage for bad reasons.

NFL

\r\n

History

\r\nIn August 1920, representatives from four states- Akron, Canton, Cleveland, and Dayton- held a meeting and formed the American Professional Football Conference (APFC) to improve footballing standards in the country. A month later, they formed the American Professional Football Association (APFA) and played a league with 14 teams. In 1922, they changed the name to National Football League (NFL).\r\n\r\nIn 1960, a new professional league- American Football League (AFL) started as a competition to the NFL. After six years, in 1966, the two leagues announced a merger that would take effect from 1970. During the four years between the announcement and the actual merger, the leagues started playing a Championship game- The Super Bowl. Since their merger, the two leagues are being recognized as two conferences within the NFL.\r\n

Participating teams

\r\nThere are 32 teams in the NFL divided equally among the two conferences- National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). Each of the conferences is further divided into 4 divisions- East, North, South, and West- with each division containing four teams.\r\n\r\nAmerican Football Conference (AFC)\r\n\r\nEast\r\n

Pittsburgh Steelers 2021: News, Schedule, Roster, Score, Injury Report

\r\n

The Pittsburgh Steelers is one of the most storied clubs in NFL history with their introduction to the league dating all the way back to 1933. The Steelers were originally a regional pro team that was established in the early 1920s. Their arrival into the league came under the Pittsburgh Pirates banner.

\r\n

\\

\r\n

They are the oldest franchise in the AFC and the 7th-oldest franchise in the NFL. Moreover, the Steelers are amongst the most successful franchises from the modern iteration of the NFL.

\r\n

The Pittsburgh Steelers are tied with the New England Patriots for the most Super Bowl titles at 6. What’s more, they have both played in 16 and hosted 11 times more conference championship games than any other team in the league. Chiefly, they lost their most recent championship appearance on February 11th, 2011, at Super Bowl XLV.

\r\n

\\

\r\n

The Pittsburgh Steelers finished off the regular season with a 12-4 record and placed first in the AFC North division. The Steelers went on to lose the wild card round of the playoffs against the Cleveland Brown in a lackluster 37-48 slide.

Logo

\r\n

The Steelers logo is based on the Steelmark logo belonging to the American Iron and Steel Institute. The logo contains 3 hypocycloids that indicate steel lightens your work, brightens your day, and widens your world. They also represent the 3 materials used to produce steel: yellow for coal, orange for iron ore, and blue for steel scrap.

\r\n

\\

\r\n

Not to mention, the Steelers had to petition the AISI in order to change the word Steel inside the Steelmark to Steelers before the logo was complete. The franchise is also the only NFL team to have their logo on only one side of the helmet.

\r\n\r\n

Owner Achievements

\r\n

The Rooney Family has been the majority owners of the Pittsburgh Steelers since the inception of the franchise in 1933. Art Rooney was at the helm of the club in all capacity until his death in 1988. His son Dan Rooney took over as the Team Chairman and owner and front office operations were subsequently passed onto Dan Rooney’s son Art Rooney II following Dan’s death in 2017.

\r\n

\\

\r\n

Additionally, the fundamental approach of Rooney’s management through patience and consistency has been a huge attributing factor to their success. Their approach has proven to be rewarding in that all 3 post-AFL-NFL merger era coaches have won at least 1 Super Bowl and 2 AFC championships apiece.

\r\n\r\n

Pittsburgh Steelers 2021 Sponsors

\r\n

U.S. Steel came out and signed an invested partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers at the midpoint of the 2019 season. Bet MGM was named as the first gaming partner for the legacy franchise. BetMGM is a leading sports betting and digital gaming company. They operate with the understanding that they are the presenting sponsors of the Steelers kickoff pregame show, which will be titled Steelers kickoff presented by BetMGM.

\r\n

The Pittsburgh Steelers have also had a multi-year tie-up with Pizza Hut, and they became the 2nd official NFL team to partner-up with the chain establishment joining the Seattle Seahawks. Moreover, the club also has an exclusive association with FanDuel, the fully integrated marketing deal will prominently feature FanDuel at Heinz Field.

Antonio Brown 2022: Net Worth, Salary, and Endorsements

\r\n

Antonio Brown is often regarded as one of the best, if not the best wide receivers of the 2010s. The Central Michigan Chippewas player played just 3 years of college football before opting to enter the 2010 NFL draft. Here, he found a team in the 6th Round as the 195th overall pick, as the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to bolster their wide receiver corps.

Brown spent 9 seasons as part of the ‘Black and Gold Brigade’ roster, before requesting a trade at the start of the 2019 season. Following this, he had short-lived spells with the Oakland Raiders and the New England Patriots. Following this, he signed a 1-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers mid-season (2020) on October 27th, which resulted in a Super Bowl. He again signed a 1-year contract with them on April 28, 2021, but this time he ended up parting ways with the franchise in January 2022.

\r\n

As per Celebrity Net Worth, the wide receiver has a net worth of $20 million. At one time, Brown was the highest-paid receiver in the NFL until Odell Beckham Jr. burst on the scene. Several controversies have cost him dearly, as his Tampa Bay deal was a $1 million base salary. This pales in comparison to the $17 million per year average in his initial Pittsburgh Steelers run.

\r\n

Celebrity Net Worth tally Brown's NFL career earnings to $77 million. His stint with the Patriots was potentially lucrative; however, a guaranteed $30 million was flushed away. The talented WR will have transitioned from $30 million guaranteed to $9 million guaranteed to just $158, 333 for the 2019 season due to controversies.

Not to mention, he repeated the same feat as an All-MAC in those two years.\r\n

2022 Foundation and Charity

\r\n

Antonio Brown doesn’t have any charities of his own. However, the NFL wide receiver has been very active in giving back to society. As per Steelers Wire, Brown volunteered with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

\r\n

In collaboration with Campbell Soup Company, the wide receiver presented the Food Bank with a number of soup bowls. As per ESPN, in 2016, Antonio Brown donated $ 100,000 just a few days before Christmas to the children’s hospital in Pittsburgh. He also teamed up with public schools in Pittsburgh to provide supplies to school children.

\r\n

His recent troubles have caused some issues on the charity front, as some charities have been looking to sever ties. Following a slew of incidents in January 2020, the Hollywood Police Department returned a check from Brown and issued a trespass order stating they no longer want Brown to be associated with their youth league.

\r\n\r\n

2022 Endorsements

\r\n

Antonio formerly had an endorsement with Nike, which was pulled due to unsavory allegations that were alleged. Antonio Brown is no longer a 'Nike Athlete', a company spokesperson told FOX Business. Moreover, he also lost an endorsement deal with helmet maker Xenith just days after their partnership was announced.
